1974 SUPER-G Smith Corona, Ultra-Portable *GHIA DESIGN*

$249.00

The Smith Corona SUPER-G is quite literally, the sports car of the Ultra-Portable manual typewriter world.

Designed by the great car designer Tom Tjaarda and Alejandro Tomaso, famous Indy car maker, the British-made Super G bears the iconic Ghia symbol on its clamshell travel case and is as racy as it gets with its Teal Green sleek plastic body with Black racing stripes and rubber treads instead of feet.

Weighing in at a mere 8.4 pounds (and 9.2 pounds in the clamshell travel case with retractable handle), the Super G holds a special place in the typewriter enthusiasts’ world, ticking all the boxes: Lightweight, VERY ATTRACTIVE and mechanically solid in the tradition of all great Smith Coronas.

Mechanically, the Super G is like a late model Skywriter with some cool added features like Power Spacing, a De-Jam key and Error Control.

RECOMMENDED FOR: The casual correspondent, travel/journal writer, typewriter collectors, and hipsters just joining The Revolution

THIS IS NOT the best machine for: Heavy use - the loose play of the keys will drive the highly productive writer nuts.

The Super G is made for weekend digital detoxing, journaling, letter writing, showing off at type-ins, glamping trips or house parties (poolside, cocktail in hand). Again, while mechanically sound, this little gem performs light to medium duty tasks best, preferably in front of a crowd.

ABOUT:
This particular machine is in VERY GOOD used condition; Cosmetically, there are light scratches on the plastic body, but no cracks, chips or gouges. The lid has subtle sun damage lending it a sun-tinted sea-green color - this flaw merely adds personality and does not detract from the overall aesthetics.

Mechanically, all features are in full working order and the platen is nice and grippy. The outer body has been treated with a polish specific to plastic to prevent further scratching and sun damage. Keystroke has a loose feel but good consistency with comfortable row height and key spacing; the typeface is nice and legible in 12 pt. PICA, the bell tone is bright and cheery and the contoured plastic keys make for a comfortable typing experience.

It has been cleaned and tested and is in perfect working condition, ready to use upon receipt. A NEW black/red ribbon has been installed. The SUPER G comes with its original clamshell travel lid with slick black racing stripes and iconic Ghia logo.

Will I Need To Purchase a Ribbon for my Typewriter

Not right away. Every typewriter sold on Teipiadur comes with a brand new ribbon installed so you may begin typing at once. Generally a ribbon will last for several passes when the ribbon direction-change function is employed, this will give you 1-3 months of regular use and up to a year of light use before you need to buy a replacement. Recommended ribbon suppliers are included in your welcome letter.

If your order arrives severely damaged, or not functioning please contact me immediately - WITHIN 3 DAYS OF DELIVERY - and document any defects. All machines are sold in full working order so damage or functionality concerns will likely be a shipping issue. Failure to notify me within this parameter will nullify your claim and limit my ability provide reparation.

Vintage 101

VINTAGE - as applied to typewriters in this shop - means the typewriters are likely older than you, or possibly your parents.

All machines are in USED / PREVIOUSLY OWNED condition, bearing age-related marks + wear conducive to time and use.

Every typewriter sold on Teipiadur has been serviced/restored to full functionality, cleaned, inside and out, polished and listed with accurate notes and pictures depicting any major flaws or discrepancies.

While all typewriters offered for sale are in perfect working condition, expect your typewriter to show some visible signs of age. These are generally a testament to the machine's charm and history, not detractors.

Always ask questions before purchasing to insure your satisfaction.
