THE OLYMPIA TRAVELLER IS ONE SERIOUS WRITING MACHINE
With its retro good looks, compact size and modern keyboard, the Olympia Traveller is one of the more trustworthy, reliable and stylish ultra-portable typewriters ever made.
Olympia's signature German engineering, rock-solid mechanics and efficient keystroke make it a smart choice for regular daily use.
RECOMMENDED FOR: Writers, Collectors, Minimalists, and Typewriter Enthusiasts of all ages.
NOT FOR: Digital Junkies, Toddlers, Agents of ICE, Keychoppers
Manufactured during the 1970s in Sarajevo, aka the capital of the former Yugoslavia (now Bosnia and Herzegovina), the Traveller was Olympia's maturation into the highly competitive field of ultra-portable typewriters.
Comparable to Hermes' Rocket or Olivetti's Lettera 32, Olympia's adaptation is often preferred by typewriter enthusiasts as the Traveller doesn't skimp on features or keyboard size. (Perhaps this is why Olivetti purchased the design and outsourced production to their factory in Brazil to make the Olivetti Roma and Tropical portables.)
Whereas the Lettera has flat slippy keys and a thin spacebar, the Traveller has full-size keys and a generous space bar, just like the SM series. In fact, the Traveller could be called a "Baby" SM9 with similar features and sterling solidity.
Notably, the Traveller's keystroke is swift and consistent, with touch control to adjust tension for the individual user. Its bell tone belies its size and the mechanics are intended for the highly productive wordsmith. The typeface is the writer preferred ELITE, yielding 12 characters per inch.
Uniquely compact, the Traveller's dimensions are quite sleek - a spare square foot and just 3 1/2 inches in height. The machine weighs in at 10 pounds, 11.5 lbs in its case which is a durable plastic snap-on cover. The snap-on case is easily applied, quick to engage, making it an ideal grab-and-go accessory for any adventure.
This machine is in EXCELLENT used condition
COSMETICALLY: The Traveller's exterior has only minor age-related marks (see: front rail, close-up of this detail in pic 9). The paint is crinkle-matte off-white and the charcoal frame pieces are high-quality glossy scratch-resistant plastic. The mainframe is metal and has no rust, dents or defects. The snap-on case cover bears minor stains and scratches on the interior conducive to a life well-traveled. It has been cleaned and sanitized and functions perfectly.
MECHANICALLY: This machine is in EXCELLENT mechanical condition. The platen has been treated to refresh its grip, mechanics have been cleaned, tested and lubed where needed and all functions are in full working order.
